Kenai Peninsula After School Construction Academy 2011-12

The Kenai Peninsula School District once again has been provided a grant to deliver free basic construction skills training to high school students. In this peninsula wide-endeavor the training will be conducted at local high schools and the Workforce Development Center. Students from Razdolna, Voznesenka and Kachemak-Selo can participate in training that takes place at Homer High School. Nikolaevsk and Seward are offering academies at their high schools. In Central Peninsula students will have a choice of locations depending on what area of training they are interested in. There will be two or three sessions with the first starting in mid October at most locations. If a student takes and successfully completes one academy they will be eligible for a ½ practical arts credit. They will also participate in the NCCER basic safety training.

As there is a need for skilled workers in the construction industry, the courses will teach several basic skills an employer will look for when hiring workers in entry level positions. For more information on this program contact Debbie Pearson at 283-2145 or email her at dpearson@kpbsd.org.
